A Guide to Proper Casino Etiquette

Being a good gambler is not just about winning a lot of money; it is also about treating other people with respect. This does not just refer to the people you play Poker with at home, but should you decide to go to the casino, the courtesy should extend to the staff and personnel.

Before you actually go out to a gambling venue, you should keep the following casino etiquette in mind.

When you enter the casino for the first time, make a polite inquiry about the rules and regulations for the game you are interested in. Most establishments actually hold regular tours to help newcomers become acquainted with the rules, so if there is one, take advantage of the opportunity.

It is true that a lot of players know the basic rules of Poker and Black Jack, but usually casino have their own house rules, especially regarding bets, so check the regulations and follow hem.

There are also some facts about the playing chips that you should be aware of. The red chips are equivalent to $5, the green $25 and the black $100. If you hear someone speak of tokens or silver, they are referring to tips. It is always good to ask for these tokens, as it tells the dealer that you will tip.

Casino etiquette varies for each game, but some general guidelines include the following.

Cards are dealt in two ways: face up or face down. If they are dealt to you face up, do not lay your hands on them until the game begins. If the dealer hands them face down, you can only touch them with one hand. In some games like Poker, you can place a coin on your cards once the game begins, but until the dealer gives the sign for the game to commence, do not lay anything on it.

Because some players bend the cards in an effort to cheat, this is strictly prohibited in casinos. Doing so could get you thrown out. Proper casino etiquette also requires that you not touch your bet once the hand is dealt.

Other things that you should bear in mind: keep your drinking to a reasonable level. If the house allows smoking, do not abuse it by smoking non stop or blowing it in the face of the other players. It also pays to have your strategy in mind, because you cannot ask the dealer for advice on how to play.

If you do lose, keep in mind that it is just a game. Obviously you cannot expect to win all the time, so just accept it. A good gambler is someone who is gracious and polite in victory as in defeat. When you do win, do not forget to tip the dealer and the waitress. They work as hard as everyone else in trying to make your experience as pleasurable as possible.

Gambling is an enjoyable activity, but part of the pleasure comes not just from getting loads of cash, but also from interacting with your other fellow players. By observing the proper casino etiquette with the others, you will find your stay at gambling establishments more rewarding.
