Ho Chunk Announced Expansion of Table Games

Ho Chunk Nation is readying for their return after announcing last Wednesday the expansion of table games at the Baraboo casino.

Roulette, poker and craps will stage a comeback at their casino after a short legal break

The June 30 ruling last year of the State Supreme Court ordered that the table games be pulled out.

The state ruling was reversed a few weeks ago.

According to Jon Greendeer, Executive Administrative Officer of Ho Chunk Casino, the state ruling is a victory for the Ho Chunk tribe and for the state.

Greendeer said that their victory shows that their pacts adheres to the tribal, state, and federal laws.

The table games were pulled out due to the court's decision that the tribe negotiations with Gov. Jim Doyle had violated the state constitutional provisions.

Rep. J.A. "Doc" Hines said that if the state tribes received a go signal to operate casinos, all other casinos should be allowed to offer the same games others offers.

Rep. Hines said that he wishes that Governor Doyle would give the state legislators an oversight in negotiations of gaming compacts.

The state court ruling is a welcome step in the right direction according to Hines.

The new ruling will help the Ho-Chunk Nation in improving the tribal members living conditions.

Greendeer said that the casino employs one thousand three hundred people and seventy percent are non tribal members. The additional table games are expected to help the employees.

The casino offers two thousand four hundred slot machines, thirty six blackjack tables, eleven high stakes tables and bingo hall.

The table games are expected to be back before the year ends.
